Pretty damn good, but not quite purrrfect

Alarms blare in the Lair and Tygra, along with the Thunderkittens rush in to investigate. The others, who are on an outing elsewhere, hear the Tank's warning alarms and rush back home.

Back at the Lair, the 'Cats quickly decide that the approaching stranger doesn't seem hostile and kill the alarms. Yes, nothing strange about a Walrus-man riding on a winged monstronsity. No sir. As said walrus-dude attempts to land, he crashes.

Tygra and the kids run to see if he's alright, and the others arrive shortly thereafter. It is quickly learned that this fellow is Turmagar, leader of a group of Tuska Warriors from the distant land of Tuskania. He explains how a giant Technopede is attacking his people. The major fear here is that if the Technopede prevails, the Tuskas' -- and indeed the rest of Third Earth's -- water supply will be jeopardized. And here I thought big electronic contraptions and water didn't mix. Maybe that's just it -- maybe the Technopede is angry too many of its hair dryer cousins meet their end in a tub of sparkling water. Or something.

Panthro volunteers to stay behind with the Gomplin creature Turmagar flew in on, and fix its flight gear. The other adults pile into the Tank and start off toward Tuskania. They soon find out it won't be clear sailing - literally.

First, while traveling underwater, a current nearly sweeps them to their doom. Then, the Black Widow Shark gets into the mix [apparently, they must be riding in the River of Despair]. Finally, they make it out in the open waters of the uncharted sea.

Upon surfacing, they hear singing coming from an island. Cheetara, for some reason, suggests they investigate. Just as Turmagar warns them that the mermaid they spot lounging on some rocks is lengendarily hypnotic, Tygra slips off, lured by the siren's song. Cheetara notices he's missing and soon finds him sitting near the mermaid on a bluff. Cheetara calls to him in vain and has to use her staff to get his attention -- and just in time, for the mermaid was about to bite his neck. Yup, she's a vampire!

Tygra, though somewhat out of his daze, manages to fall off the bluff and into the water. Cheetara and Lion-O both dive in after him, with the vampire mermaid close behind and in pursuit of her striped treat.

Lion-O is briefly distracted by an eel, but manages to lure the vampire mermaid away from Tygra long enough for Cheetara to grab her unconscious friend. I'm sure you can guess Lion-O kicked the mermaid's ass.

That ordeal over, they press on and arrive in Tuskania at nightfall. A battle is raging, and they almost think they're too late. Turmagar is sure the Technopede has won and now controls the source of the River. The ThunderCats, of course, aren't so willing to give up.

They get out and do battle with the mechanical monster. And just when it looks hopeless for them, Panthro arrives with the twins atop the Gomplin [Gomplins are homing creatures the Tuskas managed to domesticate. How convenient]. The twins and Tygra use their lariats and whip to tug the Technopede off balance, while Lion-O and Cheetara give it a shove from the other side. In what seems like a bizarre round of cow tipping, the ThunderCats prevail!

The scene at the end has Snarf singing and playing in the water -- which is odd because he claimed to dislike swimming in the Tower of Traps episode. Not only are we treated to Snarf's warbling [ahem], we also get a mini lecture on natural resources. Yay.

Fave Quote:

"Let's hope that's the end of the whole fishy business." - Snarf, after Tygra was rescued from the vampire mermaid.

Shay Leona: The main part I liked in this episode is when all of them came together and defeated the technopede. I loved the music and how they playd longer versions of some of the TCats theme music. Love it!
