Peter Lawrence Reviewed by: Purrsia ![]() A tiny ship tears through Third Earth's atmosphere. Far below, Cheetara finds herself effected by the crashing vessel while presumably out for a run with Lion-O. Her sixth sense can tune in to the signal the alien craft is sending, with the unfortunate side effect of draining her strength. When it begins to speak through Cheetara, Lion-O becomes alarmed and sends up the cat signal to get help. Panthro is off like a flash in the Tank to answer the call. Meanwhile, the Mutants have also been tracking the ship's signals electronically. When Slithe sees the cat signal, he sends Monkian out to see what kind of trouble Lion-O is into this time. Monkian eavesdrops as Cheetara and Lion-O explain to Panthro what's going on. The Mutant finds the fact that the spacecraft effects Cheetara so deeply valuable info and heads off to tell Slithe. Before the 'cats have a chance to board the Tank, the ship crashes near Hook Mountain, which causes Cheetara to feel its pain and confusion -- she faints, briefly, as well. They decide to get Cheetara back to the Lair where they can better care for her. The 'cats manage to also track the ship's last location to Hook Mountain, and the race is on between themselves and the Mutants to find it first. The Mutants, unfortunately, succeed. When the ship tries to defend itself by firing on them, Monkian gets pissed. He's bent on teaching the ship a lesson and starts beating on it with his mace, much to Vulturman's chagrin. All this abuse, of course, is hurting Cheetara as well. Snarf, who stayed behind to take care of Cheetara, sends the cats a frantic message about Cheetara's condition. Lion-O wants to go back and help her, but Tygra convinces him they can better help her by finding the ship. Vulturman figures out what part of the ship is controlling it, and asks Monkian to remove it. Of course, the dumb ape gets a nasty shock. Enraged once again, he really lights into the craft. Vultureman manages to stop him before he totally demolishes it -- and inadvertantly, Cheetara. But once the control unit is removed, the ship's lights go out and so do Cheetara's. The Mutants take their find back to Castle Plundarr, and the ThunderCats arrive much too late. They do, however, take the remaining parts of the battered ship back to the Lair with them. Once back at the Lair, Lion-O and the kittens decide to go to Castle Plundarr to get the rest of the ship while Tygra and Panthro try to fix what they salvaged from the crash site. Vulturman convinces his comrades to give him time to study the strange device pried from the ship, narrowly overuling Jackalman's and Monkian's vote to beat it to a pulp. While Vultureman is in his lab toying with the device, Lion-O and the kittens are sneaking about the Castle, quietly disabling the other Mutants one by one. But soon, the jig is up and they know the ThunderCats are in the Castle. The Mutants lie in wait for them, knowing what they likely came for. Just as the 'cats come upon the device and Lion-O reaches out to grab it, he gets his hand smacked back courtesy of Monkian's mace. The 'cats find themselves cornered, wary the Mutants will make good on their threats to smash the device to bits. The ship's body, all shiny and repaired, comes blasting into the Castle. Soon, it's understood that Panthro and Tygra succeeded in fixing it and have arrived with a weary Cheetara in tow - who also happens to be the one commanding the ship's body. The Mutants quickly defeated, the ThunderCats take the sought after unit and are on their way. "Suits me. I'm too close to the ground to enjoy snow." - Snarf, when asked to stay behind rather than go to Hook Mountain. "See if there's anything we can do to make things worse, yessss?" - Slithe to Monkian, upon seeing Lion-O was in some kind of trouble in the woods. This episode contains the famous ending scene, where the ship shoves Lion-O into Cheetara, and says something to her in its alien language she won't reveal. This is the basis for the idea of Lion-O/Cheetara romantic pairings. Shay Leona: One of my personal favorites. Cheetara is the epitome of a strong female! LOVE IT!!!! GRUMPYNZ: I always though Tigra and Cheetara were a couple! But i guess i was wrong! PKELL: People will always remember this episode as being the only time in the series they teased romantic feelings between Lion-O and Cheetara.

- As fun as that was, I choose to remember this episode for being very strong on character development. In addition to Cheetara being the focal point of the episode, we also got to see Monkian and Vultureman shine. In this episode we learn that Vultureman truly is the odd man out in the Mutants as they clearly don't share his love for science, while Monkian is established as the most violent of the group. And fo course Cheetara's willingness to harm herself to help the spacecraft makes her the true hero of the episode.

- The ending scene where the Mutants are defeated by the spacecraft is comedic gold. The Mutants were always great when it came to exaggerated expressions and cartoonish antics, and this was no exception.
