Perhap'n the staff indulged in a bit of silky fruit...this 'sode be trippy...

This episode opens with the Thundercats taking the Feliner into space to intercept the Mutants, who are in the Rat Star. The ThunderCats incur such damage on the Rat Star, that the Mutants have to bail out in escape pods. As they descend to Third Earth, some kind of power eases them safely to the surface. They end up landing in front of a white pyramid that looks exactly like Mumm-Ra's other than the color. The Mutants get teleported inside and find further similarities to Mumm-Ra's abode, including four statue idols.

Then a female mummy named Mumm-Rana greets them. The hitch? She's good and transforms into a powerful sorceress by calling to the Ancient Spirits of Goodness. It's like bizarro world here lol

She gets annoyed at the Mutants for being ungrateful that she saved them, but before she can send them packing Mumm-Ra shows up. After a battle of wills between the two mummies, Mumm-Ra wins and takes control of Mumm-Rana.

He then takes her to Cats Lair, having told her that the Thundecats represent an evil that needst to be vanquished. The attack is brutal as it leaves the Lair's head hanging and Tygra and Lion-O with it. Even the Sword is no match, as Mumm-Rana simply encases it in a web-like cocoon which renders the Eye useless. The Mutants then step in to put Lion-O and Tygra in chains, but when Lion-O tries in vain for the Sword Mumm-Rana magically exiles him to the badlands.

Lion-O pouts about being out in the middle of nowhere until Jaga appears and gee, it's not so hopeless. Turns out they're near Castle Plundarr and now they have a plan to show Mumm-Rana that they're not really the evil ones. Arriving at the Castle, Tygra turns invisible and walks into the place carrying a scroll. The contents of the scroll tells the Mutants that Melkior, the richest of Tabbots, will be riding through the forest the next day so they are to summon Mumm-Rana and attack. But it turns out to be Lion-O in the disguise of the Tabbot and he is able to get through to Mumm-Rana thanks to that demonstration of the Mutants' evil - robbing a presumably helpless Tabbot - and so she's able to break Mumm-Ra's spell.

She quickly teleports Lion-O back to the Lair where she frees the Sword of Omens. Mumm-Ra is hot on their heels, however, so Lion-O wastes no time summoning the others who had been out in space in the Feliner. It ends cheaply though, as Mumm-Ra is scared off by seeing his reflection in the shiny chasis of the passing Feliner. Doh!

Mumm-Rana, weakened from battle, must have the Thundercats return her to her pyramid which is the scene of another 'good is better than evil' speech. Then the Lair gets patched up and all is well.

Canon Facts of Note:

For those keeping track, this is the second time the Lair has been beheaded.

saltygirl: mumm-rana looked like a dude. seriously. worst female character design of the show.

Thunder fan: I agree with Saltygirl, Mumm-Rana's design is horrible; for an immortal force of good, she surely looked like a tranvestite and there was also that ugly helmet... As for the episode, it was not that good, though it succeeded in establishing Mumm-Rana as a very useless character, I bet even Tashi could kick her ass.
