Great Holy Jaga! This 'sode rawks!!

The ThunderCats made it to the Dark Side, but the Lunatacs've up and left in Sky Tomb already and they didn't even leave a forwarding address. With little else to do, it's decided they should head back to the Lair to think things through (a very original notion in this adventure). Ma-Mutt, who's yet again been spying on the happenings, takes off to give his master the latest headlines. Mumm-Ra, doing slightly better, but still weakened and frail, commends the infernal hound on a snooping well done and sends him out again to discover how the 'Cats plan to deal with the Loonies and their new flying stronghold. To avoid being discovered, he bids the ASOE bestow upon the pooch the looks of a berbil, since we know nobody will suspect an innocent-looking critter like that even after the events in ep #058, right? Riiiight...

Meanwhile, the merry bunch with the crescent moon tattoos is havin' a blast cruisin' around in their new ride and letting the Mutants do all the housework for them. After dealing with a small coop Alluro and TugMug tried to stage, Luna points out that, much like the Mutants, the Lunatacs' biggest flaw has always been not acting like a team; it's what allowed Mumm-Ra to overpower them, when they first challenged his dominion upon arriving on Third Earth, with known unfortunate (for them) results. This time she proposes they unite under her leadership to defeat the ThunderCats and get back at the ancient sorcerer, to which everyone agrees.

In other news, the master plan the 'Cats have hatched to defend themselves and the planet from the Lunatacs is as follows: they wish to construct an observation tower - cunningly named, the Tower of Omens - by the canyon that leads to the Dark Side to monitor any inbound hostile movement. Fearing calluses and other manicuristic nightmares, they ask their favorite grunts, the Berbils, for help. In the gathering at their village, also attended by Ma-Mutt in disguise, the robots agree, while Panthro's blabbering about how he wants to install fog lights in all of the TCats' vehicles (the rims and 'draulics are still a well-kept secret). With that, one 'berbil' splits the scene.

Later at the Lair, Snarf contacts his nephew Snarfer while everyone else is away. The kid responds from his home planet, reporting he's about to depart for Third Earth, where he obviously will be stationed at the Tower of Omens on maintenance duty. Despite his uncle's warnings, the little runt thinks he can handle his job fine (if that meant annoying everyone around him, he'd probably be right).

By this time, Mummsie's heard of the news and naturally isn't very happy about the 'Cats' "monstrous" erection (hmmm wait, that didn't come out right :\). Still, he remains exhausted and needy of rest, so Ma-Mutt must once more do the dirty work. His mission (should he choose to accept it) will be to reach the Lunatacs, brief them in current events and get them to attack and destroy that damnable outpost.

Speaking of the outpost, which's been built by now, Panthro and Lynx-O give the others a quick tour through the structure's Op Center capabilities: the new Braille Board installed at the command console can channel an exuberant load of sensory information, collected from the Cat's Eye rotating radar above, to the old lynx's hands, as well as direct it to a huge surround screen for the others to see too.

At Sky Tomb now, Mumm-Ra's doppelganger gives the Lunatacs a double thrill, first by invading their "impregnable" fortress in mid-air through a hole in the wall (!) and then by telling them what the TCats've been up to for the past few days. And that's about all the working up it took for the ugly group to decide to attack.

Sneaking up on the felines proves harder than the Loonies thought however; their approach lights Lynx-O's Braille Board up like a pinball table. But this time they mean serious business, as proven by the Lunattacker that rolls out of Sky Tomb and promptly launches a few fireballs to the tower. Shaken, but not stirred, the defendants get in gear and the fight begins. Bengali and Pumyra take a few shots at the vehicle in their pod ships, but those don't even put a dent on the Lunatacs dragon-shaped armoured vehicle. Realizing it's going to take the ThunderCats' combined forces to deal with this, Lion-O puts up the signal for the rest to come. While Panthro and he are duking it out with TugMug and Alluro on foot outside Sky Tomb, the Mutants in it are pondering what their part in all this should be. Vultureman knows the Lunatacs could very well turn on them after they defeat the ThunderCats and he's giving it good thought before lifting a finger in anyone's aid.

As Jackalman's enjoying the raging battle outside, he sees Cheetara and Tygra approach with the ThunderTank riled up and ready to rumble. The fireballs threat forces the two to engage the Lunattacker in what can only be described as tank wrestling in close quarters. On a less violent front, Alluro has a go at bending Panthro's mind like a tin spoon with his psychic powers, but is cheated out of his win at the last moment by WilyKit in the ThunderClaw, who picks up a dizzy Panthro and takes off. Going for the root of the problem, Lynx-O attempts to reverse the energy flow at the Cat's Eye and direct it at Sky Tomb to knock it out. Sure enough, the plan starts to work and with every lever Snarf's told to pull, the enemy fortress takes on increasing damage (and Snarf more and more volts through his system - delicious! ^_^). 2nd shot gets the Mutants to evac, third shot sends the Lunatacs back to their Lair in a hurry to take off (tanks n' all) and the coup de grace that follows, forces the nearly-wrecked Sky Tomb into an abrupt retreat; the ThunderCats are victorious.

This latest outcome leaves Mumm-Ra with only one last card to play - and in a risky game at that. He could beg the ASOE to grant him their combined powers, thus restoring his evil strength and fighting ability. With an ever-failing servant such as he is though, there's no guarantee they won't just say no, or worse yet, send him to hell and be over with it already. The episode ends with Mumm-Ra putting on his best poker face and placing his chips.

Quick preview of Part 4 concludes the episode.

Canon Facts of Note:

 - Sky Tomb's maiden voyage in the skies is featured here.

- Alluro is kind enough to demonstrate his mind bending powers for the first time here too. Panthro is his first victim.

- The Snarf shock treatment (18:00 - 19:00) is absolutely delicious! Had to say that :).

Quotes:

"The decision is yours of course Lion-O [...], but we should return to Cat's Lair [...]" (Lynx-O)

"ASOE, transform this decaying dog into Ma-Mutt, the Berbil!" (Mumm-Ra)

"You can never trust a Mutant." (Luna)

"*I* put me in charge. I will command and you will obey!" (Luna)

"Mumm-Ra, the Ever-living will become Mumm-Ra, the non-existent!" (Luna, yet again)

"It'll give us the earliest possible warning of a Lunatac attack." (Tygra, with lamer than usual puns)

"I'll be too busy running Cat's Lair to help you." (Snarf, the uber-admin)

"We cannot allow the ThunderCats to deface Third Earth with another of their monstrous forts; I forbid it!" (a concerned citizen, named Mumm-Ra)

"Sky Tomb is impregnable." (Chilla, who knows a thing or two about that stuff :o)

"What have you to tell us, you broken down bundle of bandages?" (TugMug, the bunnyhopper)

"Just try to stop me!" (Panthro)

Alluro: You don't stand a chance, Panthro! Give in now, while you still have a choice.

Panthro: Put your money where your mouth is, whoever you are, and let's get to it!

Purrsia's Two Cents:

By this time, Mummsie's heard of the news and naturally isn't very happy about the 'Cats' "monstrous" erection (hmmm wait, that didn't come out right :\)

LOL! Man, the 'Cats even have better Viagra...life just isn't fair for the undead hehe.

Anyway, the fact that this ep contains a minute of an electrified Snarf makes up for Snarfer's reappearance. Aces!
