UK Issued Star ComicsI will be scanning in my issues whenever I have time for you to download in pdf format, in the future. For now, at least everything in this grouping is accounted for in some capacity. Enjoy. #61 YEAR OF THE CAT PT 2 Issued 14 May 1988 Script by Steve Alan. Art by Dowdes, Baskerville In part 2, we learn how Lion-O came to be in the cave of time. When Slithe attacked in the Fist Pounder, Lion-O lost his temper and fought back. The ensuing scuffled made the Fist Pounder tip over and Lion-O was knocked out and lost the Sword of Omens. When he came to, he was disoriented and mistook the cave for a place to take refuge from Slithe and his machine. He realized too late it was the cave of time and continues to age inside of it. This part ends with Lion-O old and withered, facing the Fist Pounder on what would have been his birthday. Also included is a text story called Escape, which is continuation on an adaptation of the "ThunderCats Ho!" movie, which of course tells the tale of how the new Thundercats came to be on Third Earth. #62 YEAR OF THE CAT PT 3 Issued 21 May 1988 Script by Steve Alan. Art by Dowdes, Baskerville In this third installment, Slithe decides not to destroy the aged and weak Lion-O, thinking it unsporting. So he loads the ThunderCat Lord into the Fist Pounder and takes him to the Geyser of Life - where he'll restore Lion-O, THEN destroy him. Meanwhile, the Thunderkittens and Lion-O have not returned to the Lair and it has the others' worry. They decide to set out to find him. Cheetara comes upon Slithe and Lion-O just as the reptile is about to reach the geyser. Cheetara attacks and both she and Slithe splash into the waters without Lion-O. The other 'Cats manage to find the Sword of Omens, which is growling a warning. So they know wherever Lion-O is that he's in trouble. Also included is a text story called Flying Blind, which is a continuation on an adaptation of the "ThunderCats Ho!" movie which of course tells the tale of how the new Thundercats came to be on Third Earth. #63 YEAR OF THE CAT PT 4 Issued 28 May 1988 Script by Steve Alan. Art by Dowdes, Baskerville In the conclusion to this part of the story, Cheetara and Slithe emerge from the geyser's waters youthful. Lion-O remains old and dare I say, cranky. The others come upon the scene and wonder how to safely bring them back thinking the cave and geyser options are too risky. Then, Jaga appears and tells Lion-O to use the sword. Of course, it fixes everything. Plus Slithe, to pay them back for saving him, helps them safely mine the Thundrillium out of the Cave of Time with the Fist Pounder. But there's no time to celebrate because...where are Kit and Kat? Also included is a text story called Planetfall!, which is a continuation on an adaptation of the "ThunderCats Ho!" movie which of course tells the tale of how the new Thundercats came to be on Third Earth. #64 FLIGHT OF THE NETHERWITCH PT 1 Issued 4 June 1988 Script by Steve Alan. Art by Wetherell, Bouttell & Weasel The Thunkerkittens end up getting in trouble with the Netherwitch who ultimately sends them to Fire Rock Mountain. Lynxana, who had been tracking bloodstones, is getting closer all the while. There's a text story in this issue as well, called Distress Signal. It tells a tale of how Bengali and crew try to get help so they can be rescued from Destiny Atoll, the island they were marooned on when their space ship crashed. #65 FLIGHT OF THE NETHERWITCH PT 2 Issued 11 June 1988 Written by Steve Alan. Art by Wetherell, Bouttell & Weasel This issue has the second part of this story. It opens with Kit and Kat tapped at Fire Rock Mountain and the Netherwitch - who is a whole lot uglier here than in the series - taunting them. She wants one of them to choose who will go with her and be her assistant, I guess, but the twins refuse. Lynxana shows up just in time to thwart the Netherwitch, who in this story, does not appear to be Mumm-Ra in disguise. Once that's all cleared up, everyone goes their separate ways amid some amusing dialogue. Afterward, there's a text story called Brothers In Arms. Basically, Slithe hires Captain Shiner (you may remember him as the mercenary-for-hire from the "Sword in a Hole" episode) to capture Tygra for him in the hopes the tiger will repair and improve all the Mutants' crappy vehicles. Shiner delivers Tygra and Cheetara, who had been out in the woods training together. Using Cheetara as leverage, Tygra is forced to repair the Fist Pounder and any other number of Mutant vehicles. However, when Slithe tests the Fist Pounder, he quickly finds it out of control. Tygra sabotaged the machine in hopes he and Cheetara could escape in the ensuing chaos. Which is exactly what happened. #66 DOUBLE JEOPARDY Issued 18 June 1988 Plot by Gerry Conway. Art by Collins, Griffiths This issue has a very similar story line to the US issue #24, Through a Dark Glass, though some details are shuffled around. The warring factions in this tale, for instance, are the Berzerkers and Berbils, and the fake pod Thundercats do their best to thwart the peace efforts. There's a text story by the name of Mystic Maze as well. Mumm-Ra tries to show Mongor how he can mess with the Thundercats with magic and a lesson is learned about magic and science. #67 DOUBLE JEOPARDY PART 2 Issued 25 June 1988 Plot by Gerry Conway. Art by Collins, Griffiths, and Coleby Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. Wilykit and Wilykat fight and defeat their evil doubles. Meanwhile at the Berbil/Berserker Peace Conference, the trouble making doubles of Cheetara and Lion-O are captured and revealed as shape shifters. Berbils and Berserkers shake hands and Mumm-ra is left fuming that another plan has failed. Text Story No.8 - 'Raman-Ka!' by Steve Alan Bengali, Pumyra and Lynx-O climb into a volcano to rescue Termagar, only to encounter a being called Raman-Ka, who says he is one of the six brothers of Mumm-Ra. He explains that his quest is to reunite his brothers and ultimately to vanquish Mumm-Ra. He releases them, explaining that Termagar is in the Well of the Timelost, and the 3 return to their ship to find the two Berbils, Ro-Ber-Bob and Ro-Ber-Bert, suffering from the bad weather. #68 DR. Ro-Ber-Bob insists that he is restrained, revealing that at one time the Berbils were not the peace-loving, gentle race they are now. After nearly destroying themselves, they learned to curb their war-like instincts and transformed their appearance. However, he says they still sometimes lose control. Right on cue, Ro-Ber-Bert goes on the rampage. After a fight, they capture him and he returns to normal. #69 DR. DOMETONE PART 2 Issued 9 July 1988 Written by Tom DeFalco. Art by Turner, Simons & Scotese This issue covers the second part of the US Star comic by the same name (click here for that review) - it basically follows the TV episode story. It also contains text story # 10 called Rat's Tale. It tells the story of how Rataro landed on the island that Pumyra, Bengali and Lynx-O were marooned on, and convinced them that he was a goodwill ambassador with malcontents chasing him - he asked that they help him repair the Ratstar. The malcontents, of course, were the ThunderCats. Though suspicious, they agree to help the stranger and hope he'll rescue them from Destiny Atoll. When the ThunderTank arrives, the Thunderians help Rataro attack, not realizing their countrymen occupied it. Rataro briefly posses the Sword of Omens, and Pumyra recognizes it as the Thunderian treasure only entrusted to the Lord of the ThunderCats. Lion-O calls the blade to his hand, but before Pumyra and Bengali can rush to the beach where he is, Lion-O and the others disappear under the ocean within the ThunderTank. While they stand there stunned, Rataro blasts off and so they remained marooned. #70 DR. DOMETONE PART 3 Issued 16 July 1988 Plot by Tom DeFalco. Bengali escapes to distract the monster, while Ro-Ber-Bob electrifies the ship's hull. The sea monster spits them out and they find themselves back on Destiny Atoll. #72 BAD PLAYMATES PART 1 Issued 30 July 1988 Plot by James Rose. Art by Delbo, Simons Special thanks to Spaced Angel for the scans and information on this issue. Vultureman has created robotic replicas of the Thunderkittens and he sends them off to Cats' Lair. Lion-O, meanwhile, is going to a harvest festival held by the Nai fisher folk, when he meets Jaga, who warns him not to base judgements on outward appearances.
